On July 11, 2010 I went on a canoe trip on the South Fork Shenandoah with the Outdoor Adventure Social Club. I didn’t take many pictures.
I was glad to see that Jerry (in the bow here), who had been paired with me on a previous trip, had come back for more canoeing.
Around every bend, the South Fork Shenandoah gives you a nice view of either the Blue Ridge or Massanutten. I think it’s Massanutten in this picture.
Steph and Sue often pair up on OASC canoe trips.
Here I am, resting in an eddy under a tree and waiting for the other boats, just after going over one of my favorite rapids. It’s an old mill dam where there is a dramatic drop (about one foot) but the water is deep and the navigation is easy. I think my shirt was wet from swimming earlier, not from splashing through the rapid.
At the takeout we met this cat, who was hanging around and begging for bits of people’s sandwiches. He seemed well cared for, not too scrawny or scraggly, so we all hoped that he belonged to the nearby farmhouse.
